Apartments are HARD
First you have to find it. That means scanning the webs 3456 different websites, checking the paper, and driving around looking for “FOR RENT” signs and asking tons of people you know to keep an eye out too. Then if you DO find one you have to call them (which is crappy if your nervous on the phone like both me and Matt are…) then you have to stammer your way into a visit at the place.
IF you like the place you now have to pay rent worth like 1 month at that place, sometimes on top of a security deposit. Then you have to move ALL your stuff from once place INTO that new place. (Not easy or fast if you’re too broke to pay movers) Then you change everything in the place so that it looks like a passable home. Then you have to call the cable and set that up (more nervous calls) Then you have to call the electric. (More nervous calls)Then you change your address (not just for legal reasons, but because all your mail and magazines will show up elsewhere. That means every website you buy/have bought from if it saved you settings) THEN you hope you still have money for food and the food you brought with isn’t spoiled because its still in the car you forgot to unpack. Then you eat ramen for 2 weeks.
I bet you think you’re finally settled into your new home, YAY INDEPENDENCE! Don’t forget your bills have to take care of this place super nice so you don’t lose that security deposit. Also take pictures of everything that WAS wrecked when you got there or your landlord will be a douche and tell you that was never there and you broke it. They can and WILL take that security deposit from you…
Don’t forget that in 9 months you have to start the first step again so that once your lease is up you have somewhere else to live. Also at the end of the first lease you have to call and cancel the electric and cable (More nervous calling) until you can do it all over again at your NEW place (MORE nervous calling)
All this while maintaining a full time job and some semblance of normal life.
